If Jesus hadn’t gone to the cross, we would still be in our sinful state and cut off from the Father’s love (1Peter 2:25 ). The sinful nature of our forefathers was passed on to us without you and I even have any say in the matter. Psalms 51:5 It is mentioned in Genesis that after the fall of man, their offspring no long took on the image and likeness of God, but now took on the image and likeness of their forefather’s (Genesis 5:3)
But before the beginning of time, God in His foreknowledge knew that man would have fallen from grace and so He planned a way out for him; the Lord started by using animals’ blood as the covering for sin to appease His wrath. It wasn’t His ultimate plan but was only a foreshadowing of what was to come. God planned to wipe away sin completely by Him (God Himself) becoming the perfect sacrifice. After man populated the globe and they continued to indulge in all manner of evil, the Lord went ahead with the first phase of His plan by calling one man by the name of Abraham to leave his Father’s house and go to a land far away.
Because of Abraham’s obedience, the Lord promised to give him a son by his wife, Sarah (Genesis 17:1-25). After getting His son, the Lord then told Abraham that he had to sacrifice his promised son on an altar (Genesis 22). Abraham was still faithful to God and was about to slay his only son when an angel of the Lord stopped him and substituted the boy for a ram caught in the bushes. Seeing Abraham’s faith and obedience?
The Lord pledged to bless his offspring and use the blood of the ram and bullock to cover their trespasses against Him until the ultimate sacrifice arrives. The sacrifices of animals to cover sin were rigorous, repetitive, and had to be done; after a while, it became only a ritual. Humanity continued to indulge in sin, thinking that all he had to do was to sacrifice an animal to appease God’s wrath. Yet throughout all of this, sin remained because it was only covered by the blood of a sacrificial animal. The law was also given at a time to keep a man in check, yet it couldn’t bring about righteousness.
Although the Jewish nation tried to live according to the law, yet it wasn’t able to save them because the law was through work, and no one can work to please God; it comes only through faith. And yet again the law was weak in itself to bring forth righteousness main aim of the birth of Jesus was for Him to take on the sin of man and die in their stead. (2 Corinthians 5:21 ).
The birth of Jesus was prophesied by prophets of old. He had come to free mankind; the cross is what makes everything significant and priceless in the heart of God. It is what makes us precious in the eyes of God. Jesus was the full embodiment of God Himself. He was fully man yet He was also fully God (Matthew 1:23, John 14:9-10, John 10:30). Jesus does nothing of Himself, but through the Holy Spirit, He patterns the way for us to follow. Jesus came to shift us from the natural sight to His supernatural insight; where we won’t any longer see things by our natural circumstances but through faith, making every impossible situation possible. Because of Christ’s death and resurrection, man is no longer bound by sin; Satan and his minions were disarmed by the power of the perfect sacrifice. The children of God were renewed by the life-giving Spirit in the blood of the lamb (Jesus’ blood). So, let the enemy alone continue in sin; because he knows no better. 1 John3:8
The cross is the bridge that switches us from sin to righteousness. It takes us from the natural sight to spiritual insight, from worldly knowledge to revelation knowledge, from doubt and fear to love and a sound mind (2Timothy 1:7), from death to life (2 Corinthians 1:10), from mortality to immortality (1 Corinthians 15:53-55); because of the cross, man regained the power to choose who they would serve; darkness or light, sin or righteousness (Joshua 24:15). The cross gave humanity back the authority they lost to Satan (Luke 10:19). It makes man the head and not the tail (Deuteronomy 28:13). It makes the children of God the lender and not the borrower (Deuteronomy 28:12). It put them above everything and not beneath (1Peter 2:9).
You and I had died with Christ and were raised anew in the power of His life-giving Spirit; we are free and not bound (Galatians 3:13 ) so, let us live our life according to this revelation, in faith and not listening to the lies of the devil; because he is under our feet and must remain there. Set your mind on the things above and not the things of this world because the things of this world are temporary and are passing away
Jesus going to the cross was Heaven’s best secret, and it was revealed in time to set God’s people free. Let us walk as if we have freedom and victory; because Jesus Christ won it for all of us, so He could shift us from our natural sight to His supernatural insight.
